‘Two Tribes 7's Clash’ series launches with a quartet of slick edit releases

We’ve opted for the achingly bittersweet Fotheringay rework, 'I Feel Edit'

We were intrigued when a new series of edits from the newly-launched Two Tribes 7's Clash arrived at Cosmic Tiger HQ. The project comes courtesy of Justin Deighton, Pete Herbert, and Leo Zero, with support from Two Tribes Brewing in Kings Cross, London. The team have released a series of four edit instalments, available as 7” vinyl as well as digitally, and while all are well worth checking, it's the fourth chapter – a delightful edit of Fotheringay's 'The Way I Feel' – that got us the most excited.

Fotheringay were formed by former Fairport member, Sandy Denny. The quintet recorded just one album, the eponymous 'Fotheringay', and 'The Way I Feel' was a standout from the LP. On their respectful rework, Justin Deighton and Leo Zero make full use of the original's haunting vocals and melancholic instrumentation, stretching out the arrangement courtesy of an extended, wide-eyed bridge, while adding just a touch of bottom end courtesy of an enhanced rhythm track. Sunset maestro Pete Herbert presents a dub interpretation, upping the tempo while stripping things back in favour of snappier drums and cosmically-inclined textures. The looped guitar lick embodies the track with a hypnotic feel, and the weighted bass gives his version just enough beef to get cosmically-inclined dancers on their feet.

'I Feel Edit' by Justin Deighton and Leo Zero is out now, including the Pete Herbert Dub. You can buy it here
